The indefinite determiners: some/any

a- some and any are used with plural countable nouns
 
  1. There is an apple in the basket.
  2. There are some apples in the basket.
  3. There aren't any apples in the basket.
  4. Are there any apples in the basket?

b. some and any are used with uncountable nouns

  1. There is some milk in the bottle.
  2. There isn't any milk in the bottle.
  3. Is there any milk in the bottle?

c.  some is used in affirmative sentences and in requests or offers

  1. Do you want some coffee? (offer)
  2. Would you like some biscuits? (offer)
  3. Can you buy some bread? (request)

d. any is used with negative and interrogative sentences;
